The City of Ammon, Idaho is hiring a City Administrator.

The City Administrator, under the direction, supervision and authority of the Mayor, is the liaison officer for the City.  This position directs the administration of city government, providing leadership with the long and short term goals of the city.  The City Administrator typically makes recommendations to the Mayor for action.

The City Administrator supervises and coordinates with the various Department Heads in the day-to-day managing and operational functions of the City. The City Administrator attends all City Council meetings. The City Administrator assists the Mayor in conducting the city’s business in all matters and performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as the Mayor may direct.

The City Administrator may be involved in highly sensitive and/or emotional interactions requiring skill in gaining the trust and confidence of others. This person should have skills in conflict resolution as well as contract interpretation. A self-starting individual is essential to this position.

The City Administrator must have a working knowledge of the functions and processes of City government, preferably having prior experience as a City Administrator or an Assistant City Administrator. Must have a thorough knowledge of municipal, state and federal laws as well as an understanding of municipal organizational structures and issues. Must have the mental and physical ability to endure a demanding, high stress position.

A degree from an accredited university in public administration, public affairs, business or government management or a related field is preferred.   8-10 years city or county governmental managerial experience is preferred.   Experience in operations, budgeting, managing personnel and economic development is required.  This person must have a good knowledge of government finance and must also possess high level communication skills. The position of City Administrator is an office appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.

The City Administrator is an at-will employee and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor. Salary range annually is $65,000 – $85,000, depending on experience. The position is full-time with benefits.
